About Us
The South Mountain Radio Amateurs (SMRA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group of amateur radio operators dedicated to furthering amateur radio by educating, assisting, and providing community service and emergency communications within Cumberland County and the surrounding area in Central Pennsylvania since 1976.
We operate and maintain several voice repeaters and digital packet repeaters using the callsign N3TWT as well as support many organizations in South-Central Pennsylvania including the Cumberland County Office of Emergency Preparedness, Cumberland County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Carlisle Regional Medical Center, Three Mile Island, and where ever else our emergency communication services are requested. In the community, you’ll find us assisting with communications during the Michaux State Forest bicycle races, parades and other events.
Monthly Club Meetings
Regardless of whether you have your amateur radio license or not, you’re invited to attend one of our monthly meetings held at Cumberland County Emergency Operations Center, 1101 Claremont Road, Carlisle, PA. across from the Cumberland County Prison . Our meetings are on the third Tuesday of each month at 7pm. Give a shout on one of our repeaters and we can talk you in, or send one of the club officers an email for directions and more information.
Ham Radio Exams
The SMRA is proud to have a VE (Volunteer Examiner) team. Individuals or groups who would like to take the test for a new license or upgrade their existing license are encouraged to get in touch with us. We like to test prior to our club meetings (3rd Tuesday of every month), but other arrangements can be made. Please contact us in advance if you plan to test at one of our meetings!
